#48 The Lost Hours

The Lost Hours

Before coming across The Lost Hours at a thrift store, I had never heard of Karen White. I now own almost all of her books. Picking up The Lost Hours to read on a whim, I was pleasantly surprised. White is a truly talented writer. Her characters are not only complex, but oh so real.

On the search to solve a family mystery, Piper Mills is a relentless and deep character who I could probably read about all day long. The story that unfolds in The Lost Hours resonated with me on so many different levels. Mostly, though, it made me realize how precious grandmothers are, and encouraged me to dig a little deeper into my family’s past. Rating it with 5 stars on Goodreads, I highly recommend reading this novel. The Lost Hours will reveal just how important hours with those close to you can be.

“Every woman should have a daughter to tell her stories to. Otherwise, the lessons learned are as useless as spare buttons from a discarded shirt. And all that is left is a fading name and the shape of a nose or the color of hair. The men who write the history books will tell you the stories of battles and conquests. But the women will tell you the stories of people’s hearts.”
